Vegan Tzatziki

Vegan Tzatziki Delicious and Healthy

Vegan Tzatziki is a delicious and healthy addition to your traditional Greek-style foods. A refreshing side complimenting just about any other cuisine! It takes just 5 minutes to prepare. If I have my Strained Almond Yogurt ready in the refrigerator, I am good to go. It is simple to whip up Vegan Tzatziki for guests. Vegan Tzatziki served with warmed flatbread, warmed marinated olives and a glass of red wine feels like a decadent tapas party.

Detroit is known for Greek-Town, home of arguably the best Greek food in the United States. A half hour away my is my childhood hometown Ypsilanti, Michigan. Named after a Greek man named Demetrios Ypsilanti. Ypsilanti certainly has its fair share of Greek Cuisine available – much of is eaten in diners during the late-night rush. Tzatziki was a staple for me, I could not imagine eating at a Greek Restaurant, or preparing Greek food, without having a big bowl of Tzatziki. It is perfect on shish kebobs, Greek Style fish, Spanakopita and flatbread.

Why Vegan?

After years of being a vegan, I have developed an intolerance for cow dairy. No longer a vegan, my body will process dairy made from goat or sheep. These cheeses, which are less processed, are the preferred choices on the Mediterranean Diet, I follow the pyramid and use any dairy sparingly. This helps me maintain my weight and avoid inflammation. I enjoy Vegan Tzatziki frequently. My friends never comment on it being plant-based. They may not even know. Vegan Tzatziki is delicious and healthy. It is as tasty as traditional Tzatziki. After a gathering there are never any leftovers.

Uses for Vegan Tzatziki

Shrimp Gryos with Tzatziki

Do not limit Vegan Tzatziki to just Greek Cuisine. Use it as a dip, a spread, or a side dish. It is the perfect snack to take on a picnic and serve with crudities. Spread it inside of a pita and add canned tuna fish and lettuce for a dressed-up lunch to go. Vegan Tzatziki with Feta in a Mediterranean Omelette is amazing. I love to use Vegan Tzatziki as a side dish on Taco Tuesdays, the cool cucumber gives spicier dishes a refreshing break from the heat.

Starting with Strained Almond Yogurt this recipe could not be any easier. It keeps refrigerated in an airtight container for 3-5 days. Disclaimer: It may keep in your refrigerator 3-5 days. Vegan Tzatziki does not last a day in mine!
