Easy Vegan Condensed Milk
Easy Vegan Condensed Milk is delicious and sweetened. It is also a game changer for me. I have not had sweetened condensed milk in more than thirty years. I realize this omission ages me, but it is a fact. Any dessert made with sweetened condensed milk has been off my list. I am not saying it is healthy to consume large quantities of condensed milk (or dessert for that matter). I am super excited that I have a method for making this key ingredient in a healthier way that supports my way of eating and living on the Mediterranean Diet.
Four Simple Ingredients for Naturally Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Your favorite plain plant-based milk (I use Oat milk)
- Real maple syrup
- Vanilla Extract
- Cornstarch
Desserts are part of the Mediterranean Diet. At the top of the pyramid, sweet treats are perfect to share with those you love during times of celebration. A foundation of the Mediterranean Diet is to gather with others and enjoy meals that are delicious and nourishing. Easy Vegan Condensed Milk is a healthy alternative. It is made with whole ingredients, is lower-in-sugar and sweetened with naturally sweetened real maple syrup.Â
If you are using plant-based milk that is already sweetened then cut the maple syrup by half. I suggest the regular low-sugar version of milk. Additionally, you control the type of sweetener when you add it yourself. Real maple syrup is a preferred sweetener on the Mediterranean Diet.
Buying plant-based milk with vanilla flavoring is often introducing more additives and preservatives. I suggest you add your own vanilla. Any vanilla you have on hand will work, but if you want to treat yourself a quality vanilla. My favorite is Penzeys Mexican Vanilla Extract – WOW!
Vegan condensed milk is sweetened, thick and creamy and perfect for any of your favorite recipes calling for the canned stuff. It will keep in the refrigerator for at least five days.
While desserts are part of the Mediterranean Diet, I love making healthier options for my friends and family. Especially when the healthier versions do not sacrifice on decadence. If we are only going to have desserts on occasion, I want to make sure they are as healthy as they are delicious!
